Resolutions

January 3, 2012

I am bad at resolutions.  Mine are usually boring such as losing 50 pounds, yes that is boring.  I have never set crazy goals like skydiving or scaling some insurmountable mountain, I live in a place called reality where I have a wife, four children and a mortgage.

I wondered this year if I could put together some resolutions that had actual substance, that weren’t “boring.”  Someone reminded me this morning of Jonathan Edwards 70 resolutions, they are fantastic to think about and can be found online at http://www.apuritansmind.com/the-christian-walk/jonathan-edwards-resolutions/.  My list wouldn’t be that exhaustive, but those are great resolutions.

When I think of the word “resolve”, my mind goes to 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”  What if this year we decided that we were going to only speak of Jesus with others?  What would that look like?  How would that change my relationships in my church, small group, neighborhood, workplace, family?

It seems like such a small venture to resolve to know nothing but Christ.  It has large implications for our manner of life, and it’s certainly not boring!!

Lead with Love,

Dave
